A look at potential running mates for Deomocratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

Joe Biden - U.S. senator from Delaware since 1972. He became a recognized foreign policy expert during his years in the Senate and is the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He previously ran for president in 1988 and again in 2008.

Hillary Clinton - Second-term U.S. senator from New York and candidate for president. She is the first First Lady elected to the Senate and the first woman elected statewide in New York.

Tom Daschle - In 1986, The South Dakotans was elected to the Sentate. He became Senate majority leader and served until 2004 , when he lost his re-election bid. Daschle is national co-chairman of Obama's campaign and a South Dakota superdelegate.

John Edwards - Former senator from North Carolina chosen by Senator John Kerry to serve as his running mate in the 2004 presidential election. He dropped out of this presidential race in January.

Lee Hamilton - Former Indiana representative who during a 34-year House career became chairman of the foreign affairs and Intelligence committees. He also was vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission and the Iraq Study Group, a bipartisan commission that assessed U.S. policy in Iraq.

Sam Nunn - Former U.S. senator from Georgia served from 1972 to 1996. He began his political career as a Democratic member of the Georgia General Assembly in 1968. In 2001, he and Ted Turner created the foundation, Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), to reduce the threat to the world of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction. Recently endorsed Obama.

Nancy Pelosi - Congresswoman from San Francisco's 8th District was named the first woman U.S. House speaker after the Democrats took control of the House after the 2006 elections.

Bill Richardson - The New Mexico governor, in his second term, was an early presidential candidate this year. In 1997, he was confirmed as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and the following year he became secretary of energy under President Bill Clinton.

Tim Roemer - Former six-term House member from the 3rd District in Indiana also served on the 9/11 Commission. He is president of the Center for National Policy and a distinguished scholar at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, a non-profit research and educational institution dedicated to improving public policy outcomes.

James Webb - First-term U.S. senator from Virginia. He served as Secretary of the Navy and is a former Marine Corps officer and highly decorated Vietnam veteran.
