A diver in Perth, Australia, was killed on Sunday after police said a large shark attacked her while she and another man were in the water on a dive.
Doreen Collyer, 60, was diving off the coast of Mindarie, north of Perth, when the shark attacked her and left her with "apparent and severe" injuries, Huffington Post Australia reports. She was with her 43-year-old male diving partner at the time, who escaped the water with no injuries.
According to The Independent, the man said "he felt something go past him," but was not able to feel whether or not it was a shark. Three fisherman positioned their boat between the man and the shark, but Collyer was attacked. The man was pulled from the water.
The species of shark was not confirmed, but it is believed to be a great white, Huffington Post Australia added. "The other boat that was in the water was five-and-a-half meters long (17-feet)," police Inspector Danny Mulligan told The Independent. "And they say that the shark was longer than their boat.”
This is the second fatal shark attack in the area after surfer Ben Gerring died after having his leg bitten off by a shark near Perth. The attack on Gerring happened 60 miles south of the attack on Collyer, The Independent added.
