A woman was arrested after being accused of abusing her 10-week-old nephew, Gaston County police said.

Lashea Medlin was booked Wednesday night and given a $200,000 bond. She will face a judge after she was accused of throwing her 2-month-old nephew across the room and causing a skull fracture.

The child, Gabriel, is recovering at home while doctors continue to watch to see if he will have any long-term effects from the incident.

Ed Taylor, his father, said his sister, Medlin, couldn't have children.

He believed letting his son occasionally stay the night with her would be good. He said he knew something was wrong when he picked Gabriel up from her home.

She claimed the baby fell off a couch, then he said she confessed after doctors checked out the infant.
