If you are expecting to swing by the Apple store today to get a new iPhone 7 Plus as it hits store shelves, you are going to be disappointed.
According to Apple, that version of the next generation of its smartphone is sold out, thanks to online sales. And, if you are looking for the jet black version of the iPhone 7, sit down, there is more bad news.
Yep, that one’s sold out, too.
If you are not picky about the smartphone’s color, you have a shot at finding one in Apple retail stores or in “partner locations,” Apple said in a statement released Thursday.
“We couldn’t be happier with the initial response to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and we are looking forward to beginning sales through our retail stores and partners around the world,” a statement from Apple read.
“Beginning Friday, limited quantities of iPhone 7 in silver, gold, rose gold, and black will be available for walk-in customers at Apple retail stores. During the online pre-order period, initial quantities of iPhone 7 Plus in all finishes and iPhone 7 in jet black sold out and will not be available for walk-in customers. Availability at partner locations for all finishes may vary and we recommend checking directly with them.
“Customers can continue to order all models in all colors on apple.com. We sincerely appreciate our customers’ patience as we work hard to get the new iPhone into the hands of everyone who wants one as quickly as possible.”
According to reports, the backorders on some phones may push delivery into November. Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile phone networks have said that they have received record orders for the new phones.
The companies all announced free iPhone 7 deals that require customers to trade in a qualifying iPhone (iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, or iPhone 6s Plus) and agree to a two-year contract. The contract credits the wireless account each month for 24 months to equal the price of a 32 GB iPhone 7.
The iPhone 7 (32 GB) sells for $649. The iPhone 7 Plus (32) is $769.
