Deputies in a Florida town said they found a small alligator living in a hot tub in a man's back yard.

Indian River deputies said they went to Tony Wells Jr.'s house to serve an arrest warrant Tuesday when they found the gator.

Wells told detectives the alligator was there when he moved in, so he just kept it and fed it chicken.

"Now, we've seen alligators in swimming pools. We've seen them on driveways, in drainage ditches and ponds near houses. I believe this is probably the first time we've ever actually seen a gator in a hot tub," said Thomas Raulen of the Indian River County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies contacted Florida Fish and Wildlife officials to remove the animal.

Officers charged Wells with possession of an alligator.
