Pop star Taylor Swift was honored with the coveted Teen Choice Icon Award at Sunday night's show in Hermosa Beach, California, calling it "an amazing honor."
Presented by Swift's friend Alex Morgan, a World Cup soccer star Alex Morgan, the musical powerhouse, dressed in a rainbow Versace bodysuit, shorts and blazer, used the occasion to call attention to the U.S. women's soccer team's lawsuit over equal pay and equal playing rights.
She urged fans to support the team's effort.
She also encouraged her millions of young fans to be strong.
“Mistakes are inevitable,” Swift told them. “It’s normal to make mistakes.”
If you’ve messed up or are feeling embarrassed about something, it’s normal,” she said.
“Please be kind to yourself and stand up for yourself,” she said.
Swift has sold almost 33 million albums in the U.S. alone and has won dozens of awards for her work, including Grammys, Billboard Music Awards and country music awards.
