How does a 120-pound Great Dane get in a tree?
In Kora's case, she likely tried chasing a squirrel or raccoon, Wes McGuirk, the dog's owner, told KETV.
Better yet, how do you get a dog that size down when it's 20 feet up?
"I would have never thought it was possible. Not a Great Dane," McGuirk told KETV. "I could see a cat getting stuck in a tree, but never a 120-pound dog," he told WOWT. "Never."
The Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Department responded to the far from typical call with some skepticism and a couple plans to safely get Kora out of the tree.
"While we were responding, we were admittedly somewhat skeptical. Upon arrival, sure enough, there she was," officials wrote on Facebook. "This is one of those calls that had a great outcome and will not soon be forgotten."
Initially they wanted to get a harness around the dog and lower her to the ground. However that did not work well. Next, they attached a long leash to the harness to lower the dog. They were able to get Kora down unharmed. A crew held a tarp beneath the Kora for safety while they tried both plans.
"We cushioned the fall pretty well," Jon Hardy, with the fire department, told WOWT. "And she went in the house like nothing happened."
