The White House announced today it has launched a blog where it will post letters sent to President Barack Obama.

The Tumblr blog, appropriately titled "Letters to President Obama," already features its first letter, from a woman who wrote to Obama encouraging his health care reform efforts.

Obama launched the "Letters to the President" project in 2009 when he took office, promising to read 10 letters a day from the public.

In the first letter on the blog, Natoma Canfield, a cancer survivor from Ohio, shares her story, saying she sent Obama a letter “straight from my heart,” describing her difficulty paying for insurance as she fought cancer. Canfield writes that “all of the excitement” — getting a letter back from Obama, and eventually meeting him — helped her keep fighting a rare form of leukemia.
