State officials rolled out a new campaign Tuesday aimed at preventing children from being left in hot vehicles.

The ‘Look Again’ campaign was headlined by Gov. Nathan Deal, his wife Sandra and Bobby Cagle, the commissioner of the Department of Early Care and Learning.

The event featured the premiere of a video warning parents, child care workers and the public to double-check for unattended children before leaving their vehicles. Some 18 Georgia children were left in cars this fiscal year, and there has been at least one fatality in the state since 2011.

“A quick glance is not sufficient,” said Deal.

The governor and his wife also called on the public to be more vigilant. Sandra Deal urged people to call 911 if they see a child trapped in a car.

“Don’t worry about getting pie on your face,” she said. “You are stepping out to save a child.”
