As lawmakers in the Congress returned to work on Tuesday, Republicans made clear they want answers from a former State Department employee who was paid on the side by Hillary Clinton for maintenance work on her controversial outside email server while Secretary of State.
Two key GOP Senators basically offered ex-aide Bryan Pagliano immunity in exchange for his testimony to a pair of Senate panels about his work on the Clinton email server.
Up to this point, Pagliano has made clear he will take the Fifth Amendment to avoid answering questions.
“Your right under the Fifth Amendment to avoid being compelled to provide testimony that might be used to prosecute you is a fundamental individual right,” wrote Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI).
“With that being said, the Committees also need the unique information you likely have in order to exercise their oversight functions under the Constitution,” the Senators added.
The questions came as Hillary Clinton herself shifted strategy on the email issue, which has dogged her campaign for weeks.

Clinton will testify in late October before a House panel that has been looking in to both the Benghazi attacks in 2012 and the issues about her outside email server while Secretary of State.
She posted a further explanation on her Facebook page late on Tuesday night.
