A 29-year-old man was rescued by a fire department crew n Salt Lake City after he fell more than 100 feet.

KSL out of Salt Lake City reported the unidentified hiker was hiking Monday above a rock quarry when he slipped and fell.

“Somewhere along that hike, he misstepped, got too close to the edge and took a slide and tumble halfway down the cliff base into the rock quarry,” Batallion Chief Mark Bednarik with the Salt Lake City Fire Department told the station.

Fire department officials said the man landed on a cliff just above another large drop off. He lost his phone in the fall and stayed there for five hours before a group of people heard him yelling and called 911 for help.

The department’s Heavy Rescue Team was able to come out and rescue the man.

“We were able to find a solid tree and some rocks to hook up to, and we lowered rescuers down to him,” Bednarik said. “He couldn’t move. He was stranded on that ledge with injuries to his legs and pelvis.”
