There may be some good news for people looking for snow this holiday season in Florida.
Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Snowcat Ridge, the state’s first snow park, is set to open in November.
“We’re gonna be able to bring snow and that whole experience to kids and families who have never seen snow before, and all the fun you can have when you kinda get to play around in it,” Winston McDaniel, marketing manager for Snowcat Ridge, told Fox13 News in Tampa, Florida.
The park, located in Dade City, Florida, features a 60-foot hill with a snow-tube run that’s more than 400 feet long. Guests will be able to ride down the slope single, tandem or in a six-person tube, similar to Stone Mountain’s Snow Mountain attraction.
For little ones, there will be a smaller hill in an arctic igloo area, McDaniel said.
Florida 29 in West Palm Beach, Florida, reported the park will also have a light show and a space for guests to get hot chocolate and warm up by the fire.
There will also be a snow play area for toddlers and smaller children to build snowmen.
Although the snow is man-made from water, it’s real, so guests should wear winter clothes.
McDaniel said the attraction is only a snow park, not a water park, so it will be open seasonally. Exact dates will vary depending on the weather. Park officials hope to keep the park open until spring break.
