Colin Kaepernick teams up with Ben & Jerry’s for ice cream

Ben & Jerry’s is releasing a new ice cream flavor that will benefit Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp.

The ice cream company and Kaepernick announced the news on social media.

The non-dairy flavor, called Colin Kaepernick’s Change the Whirled, is caramel-flavored vegan ice cream with fudge chips, graham cracker swirls and chocolate cookie swirls throughout.

Kaepernick said 100% of his proceeds from the treat will go to Know Your Rights Camp, which aims to “advance the liberation and well-being of Black & Brown communities and elevate the next generation of change leaders.”

“I’m honored to partner with Ben & Jerry’s on Change the Whirled,” Kaepernick said in a statement. “Their commitment to challenging the anti-Black roots of policing in the United States demonstrates a material concern for the wellbeing of Black and Brown communities. My hope is that this partnership will amplify calls to defund and abolish the police and to invest in futures that can make us safer, healthier, and truly free.”

The treat will be available in stores early next year.

It’s the latest Ben & Jerry’s collaboration to benefit a social justice cause. In October, it re-released its Justice ReMix’d flavor in limited batches to encourage people to vote. The flavor was initially released in September 2019 to draw attention to structural racism in the legal system.
