The 18-year-old accused of gunning down a man after a weekend party was arrested early Tuesday, according to police.

Javarious Leondre Verdell was arrested at 3:15 a.m. in Clayton County without incident and transported back to Spalding County, Capt. Dwayne Jones with Griffin police told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Clayton County police assisted with the arrest, Jones said.

Verdell has been charged with murder in the death of Ivan Matthew Sierra, who police said was shot to death early Saturday after a fight at a party. Police found Sierra with severe head trauma in the middle of the street at North 9th Street and West Tinsley shortly after midnight.

Investigators believe Sierra collapsed after leaving the party and died before he could be transported to the hospital. A weapon was recovered at the scene.

Verdell’s arrest came about 14 hours after Griffin police asked for the public’s help in finding him. Police are working to determine a motive, Jones said Tuesday.

Verdell was being held Tuesday morning at the Spalding County jail.
