Motorist impaled by guardrail in Atlanta wreck

Atlanta police were investigating a fatal wreck before daybreak Friday just west of downtown.
A car was apparently traveling eastbound in the 600 block of Whitehall Street near I-20 about 4:20 a.m. when it left the roadway and struck a guardrail, according to Atlanta police Sgt. Greg Lyon.
The guardrail separated, impaling the driver.
The name of the driver, who died at the scene, was being withheld until relatives could be notified.
