Charges are pending against a motorcyclist who led police on a chase before crashing on the Downtown Connector on Monday, Georgia State Patrol officials said. The crash led to evening rush-hour backups on the connector and nearby roads.

GSP officials Tuesday afternoon identified the motorcycle’s operator as Michael W. Webster, 23, of Crittenden, Ky. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital after the crash, GSP spokeswoman Franka Young said.

A trooper saw a motorcycle speeding south on Interstate 75 around Akers Mill Road in Cobb County and attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver kept going, recklessly moving in and out of traffic on I-75 and onto the connector. When the motorcycle went into the right emergency lane just north of 10th Street, it struck a disabled vehicle parked in the emergency lane in tow behind a motorhome, Young said.

Webster was thrown from the motorcycle, which continued back into traffic and hit a southbound vehicle on its passenger side.

No injuries were sustained by the two occupants in the motorhome.
