A drive-by shooting in Griffin sent a mother and child to the hospital Wednesday night, police said.

A 4-year-old girl was shot in the back and her 37-year-old mother was shot in the buttocks, Griffin police Lt. Mike Richardson said. Both were taken to Spalding Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.

Two other people — the girl’s father and the woman’s 11-year-old son — were also in the Lane Street home at the time of the shooting around 7 p.m., but they were not injured, according to police.

A witness reported hearing multiple gun shots and then hearing tires screeching.

“At this time we have no information regarding the intended targets of the shooting,” Richardson said in a news release.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is continuing.
