15 most bizarre world records set in Georgia

Georgians often thump their chests, boasting about having the world’s busiest airport and largest aquarium. But, Georgia has bragging rights to more unusual feats.

In 2013, 266 participants set the record for the most people simultaneously tossing a skillet for a distance of at least 9 feet, 10 inches.

At a 2005 conference in Atlanta, the largest simultaneous whoopee cushion sit was accomplished by 5,983 people.

In 2012, Val Kolpakov of Alpharetta set the record for the largest collection of toothpaste tubes (2,037).

In 2012 on Tybee Island, 2,045 participants set the record for the largest gathering of people wearing swim caps.

Jan Greeff of Columbus completed the longest barbecue marathon in 2014. Within 80 hours, he grilled 1,000 hot dogs, 200 pieces of corn, 104 pieces of chicken, 558 hamburgers and 526 sausages.

In 1971, Tom Thompson became the recipient of the largest metal plate inserted in a human skull. The procedure was performed at DeKalb General Hospital in Decatur.

Barbara Hartsfield of Stone Mountain has the largest collection of miniature chairs (more than 3,000). The chairs (not shown) are displayed in her shop called “The Minichair Gallery.”

Norman of Marietta completed the fastest 30 meters (20.77 seconds) on a scooter by a dog in in 2013.

In 2008, the Burnt Hickory Youth Ministry of Marietta created the fastest mile of pennies in two hours, 16 minutes and nine seconds.

Shane White set a record for the most Rubik's Cubes solved (175) while running a marathon in 2012. He completed the marathon in Savannah with a time of four hours, 53 minutes and 39 seconds.

Patrick Young of Atlanta set a record for the longest Guitar Hero marathon. The session lasted 72 hours and 17 minutes.

Jeff Clay (not shown) hurdled over more than 101 cars in 1989 at Fort Oglethorpe. It took him only one hour.

In 2007, Coca-Cola created the largest float (not shown) at the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta. The 3,000-gallon float included 2,850 gallons of Vanilla Coke and 7,200 scoops of ice cream.

More than 17,000 people participated in the largest performance of the Cupid Shuffle dance in 2007. It took place during the Ebony Black Family Reunion Tour (not shown) in Atlanta.

In April 2015, 621 students and staff at Satilla Elementary school in Douglas set the record for the most people playing hopscotch simultaneously.
