Police said Friday they have a better idea of what led to a deadly shooting at a DeKalb County apartment complex.

“It's believed [the suspect and the victim] got into an argument over money that escalated and ended in the shooting,” DeKalb police Maj. Stephen Fore told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Antuan McClain, 31, was found dead late Tuesday in the doorway of a Pleasantdale Crossing Apartments unit. Joshua Buggs, 31, was arrested on the scene in the 1000 block of Pleasantdale Crossing, authorities said.

According to an incident report obtained Friday by The AJC, a woman called 911 about the shooting and police responded just after 11:30 p.m.

The woman told police she was in her apartment when she heard arguing coming from an upstairs unit.

She “stated shortly after the arguing she heard approximately 3 gunshots, then heard Buggs crying,” police said in the report.

The woman checked on her daughter, called 911 and went upstairs to see what happened, according to the report.

She told police said she saw Buggs crying and heard him say: ‘He was trying to shoot me. It’s his fault."

The woman, who is a nurse, started performing CPR on McClain, who had a weak pulse, according to the incident report.

By the time police arrived, McClain was dead.

An officer asked Buggs if he was the shooter.

According to the police report, Buggs offered a one-word reply: “Yes.”

Police found a black handgun with the magazine several feet away from McClain’s body.

Buggs is in the DeKalb County Jail on a charge of murder.
