A mother and her ex-boyfriend were arrested Friday after a 4-year-old boy shot himself in the arm inside a Sandy Springs apartment, police said.
Shaniece Harris, 26, was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer and reckless conduct, and Marcus Phillips, 30, was also charged with obstruction and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Sgt. Ron Momon said Friday night.
Investigators were called shortly after 1 p.m. to an apartment on Brentwood Way, where they arrived to find the boy with a gunshot wound.
Police believe the boy, whose name was not released, grabbed the .45 caliber handgun from a dresser inside the apartment and accidentally shot himself. He was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, where he was in stable condition late Friday, Momon said.
The gun was located when police executed a search warrant inside the apartment, Momon said.
