A Duluth woman’s body was recovered from Lake Lanier Thursday morning, several days after she disappeared while swimming in the lake in Hall County.

Christine Earwood, 49, jumped into the lake Monday evening from the diving platform of a 54-foot cabin cruiser and failed to return to the surface, according to Mark McKinnon, a spokesman for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

State and local authorities searched the lake near Big Creek Park through Wednesday evening, and were preparing to resume the search Thursday morning when a patron at nearby Holiday Marina spotted the woman’s body floating in the marina about 9:15 a.m., McKinnon told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

He said Earwood’s body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.
