A new documentary based on Michelle Obama’s bestselling memoir “Becoming” is coming to Netflix next month.

The former first lady announced the new film Monday on Twitter.

“I’m excited to share that on May 6, @Netflix will release BECOMING, a documentary directed by Nadia Hallgren that shares the stories of the amazing people I met after the release of my memoir,” Obama wrote. “During this difficult time, I hope you’ll find some inspiration and joy in this film.”

In her tweet, Obama shared a short clip from the film, where she is shown giving life advice to minority youth at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, demonstrating her emphasis on community outreach.

“I’m doing what you’re doing,” she tells the coming-of-age group. “I’m figuring out what I want to do. What do I care about? And it takes time to process your life and figure out what it all means,” she said.

“Becoming: A Guided Journal for Discovering Your Voice” explores Michelle Obama’s roots and how she found her voice as a woman all the way through her time in the White House.

Described as a deeply personal experience, the book was an immediate success in 2018, outselling all other hardcovers that year. More than 10 million copies have sold around the world, according to Penguin Random House, the book’s publisher.

Michelle Obama has not missed a beat since leaving the White House in early 2017. From fashion to activism, her name is easily spoken as a trendsetter who continues to champion women’s causes and educational priorities around the world.

Earlier this year, the former first couple won an Academy Award for best documentary feature for “American Factory,” a film they produced for Netflix in 2019. The documentary was the first project for the Obamas’ new production company, Higher Ground.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
