The death of a Palmetto U.S. Army disabled veteran has been attributed to natural causes, officials said Thursday, contrary to the police’s initial belief that he died under “suspicious” circumstances.

Kenneth Brittain died from cardiovascular disease, according to investigators with the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Brittain, 53, was found dead Wednesday around 8 a.m. inside his townhome at 513 Toombs Street, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Police offered little information at the time about the cause of death, but told Channel 2 that Brittain’s death was “suspicious,” because neighbors heard something strange around the last time he was seen.

“There may have been a disturbance of some type,” Palmetto Police Sgt. Lee Gragg said. “The neighbors reported some type of an argument that may have happened about two weeks ago, and that was … the last time he was seen moving around.”

Family members said Brittain was a bit of a loner, but called police after going for some time with no word from him.

“We just hadn’t heard from him,” Brittain’s sister, Melissa Johnson said. “We called his phone, and when he wasn’t answering,” they called police.
