Police are looking for a Marietta woman accused of illegally running an adult care home.

Pictures police obtained from the home in the 900 block of Laurel Springs Lane showed, among other things, rotted food in a refrigerator and bed sheets used in the place of ceilings.

Raequel A. Penny is charged with unlawfully operating an unlicensed personal care home, and police have a warrant for her arrest, said Officer David Baldwin, a spokesman for the Marietta Police Department.

Last month, officials with the Georgia Healthcare Facility Regulation Division reported being turned away by an employee of Penny’s care home during an attempted inspection, police said.

Marietta and Cobb County police, along with employees of the state’s Adult Protective Services, subsequently searched the home.

“Detectives found the home to be in poor condition,” Baldwin said.

A warrant was issued last week for Penny’s arrest, but authorities said before police could take her into custody she shut down the facility where she aided clients with bathing and taking their medicine.

Police are asking anyone who has stayed at the facility, had loved ones who stayed at the home or has information about Penny’s whereabouts to contact Detective Daniel Ohmann at 770-794-5372 or the Marietta Police Department Tip Line at 770-794-6990.
