A pedestrian was in critical condition Saturday after being struck by a vehicle late Friday while crossing a street, police said.

The unidentified man was in the crosswalk on Powder Springs Street at the intersection of Chestnut Hill Road when he was struck around 10:22 p.m., according to police spokesman Officer Justin Rutland. The driver, Nicholas Archer, 34, of Marietta, told police he did not see the adult male before hitting him.

Rutland said Archer was traveling southbound on Power Springs Street in the right lane when the accident occurred. A witness told police the man was crossing the street against the pedestrian traffic signal.

The pedestrian was taken to Kennestone Hospital in stable but critical condition. Police said charges were pending.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call Office D. Auld at 770-794-5352.
