Police are investigating a stabbing at a Marietta residence early Friday morning.

Around 1:20 a.m., Marietta police responded to the home at 2004 Winterset Parkway for a report of a person stabbed. Police determined that Juan Espinal, 55, had stabbed his wife multiple times during a domestic incident.

Espinal fled the scene after the incident and traveled to a home near Brookhaven Drive in Cobb County, Marietta police spokesman Officer David Baldwin said. Espinal then set his vehicle and the residence on fire. The occupants of the home were unharmed, Baldwin said.

Police found Espinal unconscious several hours later on Chastain Road.

Investigators believe the Brookhaven Drive home may have been somehow involved in the dispute between Espinal and his wife, Baldwin said.

Espinal and his wife were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. Espinal is listed in serious condition, and his wife is in stable condition. Marietta police have obtained a warrant for Espinal for aggravated assault, and he could later face additional charges, police said.

Marietta police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact Detective Michael Freer at 770-794-5477 or the department’s anonymous tip line at 770-794-6990.
