A man suspected of murder in a Henry County shooting turned himself in Monday after more than a year on the run, authorities said.

Theius Robert Singleton, 37, was wanted in the September 2020 killing of 50-year-old Melik Lamont Grove at a home near McDonough, Henry County police said in a news release. In addition to the murder charge, he is facing charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and tampering with evidence.

Grove was killed the morning of Sept. 8, 2020, in the 800 block of White Dove Drive. Police responded about 2:30 a.m. after multiple 911 calls about a shooting in the area. The gunfire was the result of an argument between Grove and the suspect, later identified as Singleton, police spokesman Capt. Randy Lee said at the time.

Officers found Grove with multiple gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Lee added that a light-colored SUV, which may have had a shattered window, left the scene after the fight.

After he “had been on the run” since the shooting, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office said Singleton turned himself in at the jail Monday.

In Grove’s obituary, family described him as a “smart, passionate, protective, fun-loving family man that never met a stranger.” He is survived by his fiancé and three children, as well as his mother, three siblings, and several aunts, uncles and friends.
