A man was shot multiple times and killed Friday afternoon while sitting in his car at a busy Poncey-Highland intersection, Atlanta police said.

The victim, believed to be in his mid-20s, was driving north on Moreland Avenue before coming to a stop at the intersection with Ponce de Leon Avenue around 4 p.m., Lt. Paul Guerrucci told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

That’s when multiple suspects in possibly two vehicles pulled up, police said. Gunfire erupted, and the victim’s car continued through the intersection before coming to rest on the northeast corner.

Police said they found the victim shot multiple times and dead at the scene. His name was not immediately available.

“All suspect vehicles and the suspects fled the scene, and no one is in custody,” Guerrucci said.

Traffic was temporarily blocked in the area of the shooting. Investigators were canvassing the area and interviewing witnesses Friday evening, Guerrucci said.

Police asked anyone with information to call homicide investigators at 404-546-4235 or Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
