A man who was kicked out of a nightclub in Wichita, Kansas, overnight Tuesday opened fire, wounding eight people and killing one, according to reports.

The shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. outside Enigma Club & Lounge on North Mosley Street, the Wichita Police Department said, according to NBC News.

The suspect fled the scene and had not been apprehended as of daylight Tuesday.

The victim who died was identified only as a 30-year-old man. Two of the wounded have been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, the network reported. Three were reported in serious condition, while two others sustained only minor injuries.

Police said the gunman had been involved in an altercation inside the club and was subsequently kicked out. Later outside the club, the man returned and opened fire.
