It was one man’s lucky day, at least until he ran away from deputies during a traffic stop. That’s because they found his winning lottery ticket worth $100.

Shaun Jones, 33, was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over for a tag violation on I-75 near Glade Road on Monday, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Jay Baker said.

Baker said Jones ran into the woods after the car stopped. Deputies found a backpack they say the man is suspected of dropping that contained a laptop, the winning lottery ticket and some methamphetamine, Baker added.

To the suspect who ran on foot from our deputies on a traffic stop this morning on I-75, you left a winning $100.00...

Jones was taken into custody after being found near the scene of the traffic stop. He was booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on charges of obstruction of an officer and possession of methamphetamine. He has since been released on bond, Baker said.

Jones can’t keep everything that was inside the backpack, according to authorities.

“Yes, he will get his lottery ticket back, but we are keeping his methamphetamine,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post.
