A 27-year-old Atlanta man had been out of jail for two days before he allegedly shot another man to death last month, police said Tuesday night.
Neddrick Smith is accused of shooting Khaseim Walton multiple times around 9 p.m. Nov. 25, causing Walton to strike a utility pole, according to Atlanta police. Walton was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver came to the location and may have been involved in some type of dispute,” Atlanta police said in an emailed statement.
On Saturday, investigators secured a warrant for Smith, who was arrested Monday with assistance from U.S. Marshals, Sgt. Greg Lyon with Atlanta police said Tuesday. Smith was interviewed by police before being charged with murder and aggravated assault, Lyon said.
Smith was booked into the Fulton County jail, where he remained Tuesday night without bond. Jail records show Smith was previously arrested Nov. 21 on an aggravated assault charge. He was released Nov. 23 after posting $10,000 bond, according to booking records.
On Nov. 11, Smith allegedly had a gun in his waistband when he told another a man he was going to shoot him to death, according to an incident report obtained by The AJC. Smith was gone when officers arrived, but was arrested 10 days later following a traffic stop, the report states.
