A 39-year-old man died and three others were injured in a Clayton County wreck that shut down a portion of I-285 for several hours, police said Thursday.
At least four vehicles were involved in the Wednesday night wreck that closed the eastbound lanes of I-285 at I-75 near the airport for about five hours, Officer Ron Coloma with Clayton County police said.
A red Ford F-150 pickup truck flipped several times, ejecting and killing the driver, police said. Rafael Menchaca-Dellado, of Covington, died at the scene.
A tractor-trailer, a construction truck and a Nissan Maxima also were involved in the wreck, which happened around 6:20 p.m., police said. Three other people, whose names were not released, were transported to local hospitals for treatment, Coloma said. Their conditions were not known Thursday.
Another vehicle, believed to be white in color, left the scene of the wreck, Coloma said. The vehicle should have minor damage to the front, passenger side, police said.
I-285 was closed at Clark Howell Highway throughout Wednesday evening, and drivers were diverted onto Riverdale Road, according to police.
All lanes reopened overnight, well before the Thursday morning commute. The investigation into the wreck continued Thursday, police said.
