A man has been charged with felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with a shooting that left a man dead and a woman injured near Lawrenceville early Monday.
Justin Kattar, 29, of Stockbridge, also faces an additional count of second-degree cruelty to children after Gwinnett County police said they learned a child witnessed the deadly double shooting. The age of the child was not released.
The incident happened at a home in the 2000 block of Wheylon Drive, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Collin Flynn said in a news release. A woman called 911 about 3 a.m. and reported that multiple people had been shot, he said.
When officers arrived at the location, they found a man dead of a gunshot wound in front of the home. He was identified by police as 24-year-old Brandon Ricks.
Police also located a woman who was shot, but her injuries were not life-threatening.
Kattar was still at the home when police arrived and surrendered peacefully, Flynn said. He was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail, where he remains without bond.
Investigators believe the shooting resulted from a domestic incident and that everyone involved knew each other, Flynn said.
