Henry County authorities are looking for the person they say hit and killed a man on Christmas Eve without stopping.
“Investigators advise that it is possible the driver was unaware that the pedestrian was struck, and are checking for surveillance video in the area,” Henry County police spokesman Joey Smith said.
The crash happened Saturday along Ga. 155, near Ga. 42 in McDonough.
The victim’s mother, Cynthia Persley, told Channel 2 Action News her son, Joseph, took walks on that road and normally fed the homeless during the holidays.
“I had just talked with him,” she said. “For someone to hit my son and just leave him, I didn't understand that.”
Persley called her son’s cellphone, and a police officer told her an unknown driver struck Joseph Persley between 5 and 6 a.m.
Officers found the body of the 28-year-old man less than a mile from where he lives.
They asked anyone who may have been in the area to call Henry County police traffic Investigator Jason Hatcher at 770-288-8343.
