The Fulton County Medical Examiners office has released the name of an Atlanta man who died Friday morning of a gunshot wound.

Barry Hawkins, 51, of Atlanta was shot just before midnight Thursday at an apartment on Ira Street in southwest Atlanta.

According to initial police reports, Hawkins was shot in the leg and later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

“We do know there was some type of verbal argument inside the apartment before the gunshot,” Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton told Channel 2 Action News.

Police have not said what sparked the argument and are still investigating the shooting.
