The man struck and killed by a train as he tried to cross the tracks Tuesday afternoon in Fairburn was identified Wednesday as Dominique Jones-Parrish, 19, of Fairburn.

Jones-Parrish was hit near the intersection of East Broad Street and Fayetteville Road, according to Sgt. Anthony Badyzlo with Fairburn police. He was not at a railroad crossing, but signs posted in the area warn people to avoid the tracks. The signs are often overlooked, police said.

“It is an area commonly used by pedestrians,” Badyzlo said.

Witnesses told police Jones-Parrish may have been wearing headphones when he was struck.

“We believe he was distracted somehow,” Badyzlo said.
