A 24-year-old Atlanta man was sentenced to life in prison plus five years for shooting his girlfriend to death, the Fulton County District Attorney said Friday.

A jury convicted Larry Rosser on murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges in connection with the June 2012 shooting death of Alexis Vereen, DA Paul Howard said. Rosser was sentenced to prison after his Thursday conviction, Howard said.

Vereen was gunned down and left on the ground on June 25, 2012, on Old Gordon Road near Fulton Industrial Boulevard, according to the DA’s office. A passerby called police after finding the critically injured Vereen, who was transported to the hospital, but died two days later.

Investigators believe Vereen and a friend had gone to a nearby hotel to celebrate Rosser’s birthday. But Rosser, who was extremely intoxicated, became violent and pulled a gun on Vereen, who whom he had a child, Howard said.

Vereen left, but Rosser followed her and shot her in the head, according to prosecutors. Rosser turned himself in to Atlanta police four days later after being positively identified in a photographic line-up. The investigation revealed that Rosser had a history of abusing Vereen and previously pleaded guilty to an incident during which he beat her following a jealous rage, Howard said.

Rosser had been in the Fulton County jail since his June 29, 2012, arrest.
