Atlanta police Thursday were investigating an overnight shooting that left a man dead in the street.

The apparent drive-by shooting happened shortly before midnight Wednesday on Macedonia Road in southeast Atlanta, police said.

Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton told Channel 2 Action News that the victim, a man in his early 40s, was shot at least one time and died at the scene.

“This male is the intended target,” Hampton said. “Not sure about motive at this time.”

Before driving off, the suspect also fired several shots at a woman who witnessed the shooting, but missed, according to Channel 2.

Hampton said the suspect was possibly driving a white pickup truck.

The victim’s name has not been released.
