A 60-year-old man from Cumming was found dead late Sunday at his deer processing business in Hancock County, and investigators have determined it was a homicide, the GBI said.
His cause of death is being withheld for now due to ongoing investigation, GBI spokesman John Bankhead said in the news release.
Nelson Garner was found dead by a relative around 9:30 p.m. at Garner’s Grinder in the 18600 block of Ga. 16 in Sparta, authorities said. Garner, who was last seen alive at 4 p.m. Sunday, was a resident of Cumming but stayed at the business during hunting season.
An autopsy was conducted Monday at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur.
At the request of Hancock County Sheriff Tomlyn Primus, agents from the GBI’s Milledgeville office are assisting in the investigation, Bankhead said.
Anyone with information on the case should contact the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office at 706-444-6471 or the GBI Tip Line at 1-800-597-8477.
