A man who was trapped in a burning car died early Saturday morning following a crash in southwest Atlanta, according to emergency rescue workers.
Now Atlanta police and firefighters are investigating the incident.
The car caught fire around 4 a.m. near the southbound on-ramp of I-75/I-85 at Langford Parkway, Channel 2 Action News reported. According to Atlanta Fire Department spokeswoman Alyssa Richardson, the vehicle struck a guardrail, causing a collision. The cause of the vehicle fire remains under investigation, she said.
The deceased victim was a passenger inside the car, which was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived to the scene near the Downtown Connector.
His name was not released by late Saturday morning.
A female occupant managed to escape the fire. She was outside the vehicle with bystanders by the time firefighters arrived, Richardson said. That victim was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with apparent minor injuries. Richardson noted that the full extent of the woman’s injuries were not yet known.
