A man was shot and killed Monday night in Ringgold in an apparent road rage incident, WTVC reported.

The news outlet reported that Jack Pedigo, 34, was shot and killed, and the person who reportedly fired the gun, Daniel Vaughn, was not facing any charges as of Wednesday, according to the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office.

“Heated words” were exchanged between the two men about 8 p.m. on Battlefield Parkway, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

An investigation shows that Pedigo followed Vaughn and his wife to their home, where they got into another “heated exchange” with threats, according to the release.

Pedigo then left the scene, according to Sheriff Gary Sisk, only to return to Vaughn’s home a short while later, WTVC reported.

After “more heated words were exchanged,” Vaughn fired a gun, allegedly killing Pedigo.

“This appears to be a tragic event that is a result of a couple of strangers who lost control of their emotions in a war of words,” Sisk said in the release.
