A metro Atlanta man who pointed a BB gun at another man and demanded his wallet and car keys in 2018 has been convicted of multiple crimes.

Darievq Richardson, 23, of Douglasville, was convicted of attempted armed robbery, reckless conduct and hijacking a motor vehicle in January 2018. A sentencing date has not been set.

Possessing a BB gun that looked like a real pistol the day of the crime, Richardson attempted to rob a man who lived a few doors down from him in the same apartment complex around 5 a.m., Douglas County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Amanda Cooke said. After Richardson demanded the man’s wallet and car keys, the man took off running and Richardson followed behind until giving up, Cooke said.

The victim was able to give a description to deputies, which matched the description Richardson’s mother had given authorities the night before in connection with another incident, Cooke said. The previous night, authorities went to Richardson’s residence about a domestic dispute with his mother, Cooke said.

Richardson was located in his family’s apartment soon after the carjacking and attempted robbery. Police said he admitted to trying to take the victim’s vehicle and using a BB gun, which was found inside the apartment.

“The crimes that we convicted Mr. Richardson of are among the most serious in the state of Georgia. The danger he put himself and the victim in is inexcusable and will not be tolerated in Douglas County,” District Attorney E. Dalia Racine said.
