A man charged in the traffic death of a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy surrendered to Athens-Clarke County Police this week, a spokesman confirmed Saturday.
Mark Leon Allen, 55, of Hall was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, a misdemeanor, in the death of Deputy Eric Gary Brewer, who was killed last April in northern Athens.
Allen was taken to the Athens-Clarke jail and released after posting $2,000 bond, Lt. Don Eckert told Channel 2 Action News.
Police said Allen, who was driving a Ford Ranger pickup, pulled out in front of Brewer, who was riding a motorcycle. The deputy crashed into the pickup and later died at Athens Regional Medical Center.
