A 74-year-old man who was attacked and robbed in the bathroom of a McDonald’s in Norcross, has died from his injuries.

Frederic Cooper, 74, was still in the hospital when he died Tuesday, a day after authorities arrested his alleged attacker, Donald Thomas.

Surveillance video shows a man entering the bathroom before the attack and then leaving, tucking something into a pocket.

Thomas, 50, was arrested on charges of robbery and aggravated battery against a person 65 years or older, in connection with the Feb. 24 attack.

Gwinnett County police say Thomas followed Cooper into the bathroom at the restaurant on Indian Trail Lilburn Road. Thomas tried to take Cooper’s wallet, but Cooper resisted. Police say Thomas attacked Cooper and a struggle ensued. In the process of being knocked to the floor, Cooper sustained a cut to his face a fractured back among other injuries. Police say Thomas took the wallet and fled the scene.

An autopsy will be performed on Cooper, police said.

Thomas is being held, without a bond, at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
