A suspect who was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a man at a Lithonia home in early August was arrested in Colorado on Wednesday, authorities said.

After more than a month of being at large, 33-year-old Willie Frank Carter was arrested in Denver by the U.S. Marshals Service. He is accused of fatally shooting 42-year-old Lamarcus Collins of Lithonia and has been charged with murder.

On Aug. 4, officers were called to a home in the 700 block of Ridge Way and found Collins suffering from a gunshot wound. The investigation revealed that Carter and Collins had gotten into a physical fight before several shots were fired, DeKalb County police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent said Friday.

Vincent did not say if the two knew each other or what led up to the fight.

Carter was arrested “without incident” and is awaiting extradition to the DeKalb jail, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said in a news release.
