A man accused of raping and beating a woman inside an abandoned house was arrested Friday, thanks to tips from the public.
Jermaine Jordan, who turns 25 this month, was charged with rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated assault, kidnapping and false imprisonment and booked into the Fulton County jail, Officer John Chafee with Atlanta police said.
Jordan allegedly grabbed a 56-year-old woman and began punching her before he forced inside an abandoned home on Forrest Hills Drive on May 17, according to police. Once inside the house, the suspect began to sexually assault her, the victim told police.
“The victim then stated she was trying to fight the subject off, but he began to hit her multiple times in the face and head,” the incident report states. “The victim also stated that he was choking her.”
The victim, whose name was not released, told police that she passed out during the assault and when she woke up, the suspect was gone. She sustained severe swelling to her head, face and neck and was treated at the hospital for her injuries, the report states.
The woman was able to provide police with a description of her attacker, and early this week, a GBI artist's sketch of the suspect was released and published on ajc.com.
“The media coverage of this case helped generate information that led investigators to identifying this suspect,” Chafee said in an emailed statement.
