A Woodstock man was arrested by Cherokee County drug agents Thursday and charged with heroin trafficking as well as other drug and firearms charges, authorities said.

Cherokee sheriff’s Lt. Jay Baker said agents from the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad obtained information that Joseph Dejesus Centeno, 23, “was a major source of heroin distribution in south Cherokee County.”

On Thursday, agents tracked Centeno to Atlanta and back to Cherokee County, where he stopped at a Taco Bell on Ga. 92, apparently waiting to meet someone.

“Agents moved in and arrested Centeno, who was armed with two handguns,” Baker said. “Agents located both heroin and cocaine on Centeno.”

Baker said Centeno was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, trafficking heroin and possession of a firearm during certain crimes.

“The heroin was weighed at the scene and was more than three times the weight required for a trafficking charge,” Baker said.

Centeno was being held without bond Friday in the Cherokee Adult Detention Center.
