A Zagster bike rental station, Roswell’s first, recently opened in Big Creek Park on Old Alabama Road as the southernmost of four bike-sharing facilities on the Big Creek Greenway.

The other stations are in Alpharetta, which launched bike-sharing this spring along the Greenway and at the Avalon mixed-use development.

Visitors can borrow cruisers for local trips on the Greenway or elsewhere, as long as the machines are returned to the Zagster station when the borrower is finished. Each bike offers adjustable seats, eight gears, automatic lights, a bell, and a front basket.

To check out a bike, a rider downloads a smartphone app, enters a bicycle’s number, and gets a security code to unlock the bike. Upon returning the bike, the user ends the ride on the app and locks the bike to the rental station.

Trips under three hours are free. After three hours, non-members of Zagster pay $3 an hour, and members, $2, up to $24 per ride. The annual Zagster membership fee is $20.
