The remains of a young woman believed to have been dead for at least a year have been found in a wooded area of Stockbridge, authorities said.

The GBI's preliminary finding is that the woman died of blunt force trauma.

She was found Nov. 19 on the bank of a stream near the 900 block of Hwy. 138 East.

"A forensic examination indicated the remains are of a black or mixed-race female between the ages of 17 to 25," Henry County Police Maj. Jason Bolton said in a release. "Detectives have alerted other law-enforcement agencies about the discovery and have asked agencies to check their missing person databases."

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Capers Green at 770-288-8497.
