The family of a toddler found dead behind her home said the girl’s 13-year-old stepsister will be charged with her death, Channel 2 Action News reported.

DeKalb County police were investigating the death of 2-year-old Sasha Lamaya Ray on Monday. But police had not confirmed the teenager’s arrest late Monday.

The teenager was allegedly babysitting her siblings when the toddler disappeared from the family’s Waldrop Trail home at some point, DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said. Other children were home at the time.

When the parents returned home, the child was found outside the rear of the condo with fatal injuries, Parish said. Authorities know the cause of death, but have not released that information, she said.

The child’s father, Shelton Ray, told Channel 2 that Sasha is in heaven now.

“She’s gone on to glory now. Now it’s up to me to make it to where she is,” he said. “Like I tell all my children, they have to get themselves into heaven. I have to get myself into heaven.”
